Musiq Soulchild VERZUZ Anthony Hamilton

The day after Valentine’s Day—February 15th. When chocolate hearts are discounted, and flower shops try to take a breath. This year-- it is the day that the Verzuz Team scheduled the next music celebration. During the pandemic in 2020; Timbaland and Swizz Beatz found a way to bring smiles to many with music. Artists came together virtually, performed memorable hits and fans clicked hearts and emojis to send love via InstaGram. It has garnered great success and has a dedicated fanbase now attending Verzuz battles in person. In honor of tonight’s “Valentine’s Day Special”—I have pulled together 4 movie soundtracks that include tonight’s featured crooners Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild.

Nutty Professor II: The Klumps

It is a comedy that stars Eddie Murphy, released in July 2000 including the lovely Janet Jackson. In this movie we see Murphy’s character battle his alter-ego. In a creative twist, we also see him play seven different roles. The soundtrack has Musiq Soulchild, Brian McKnight, Case and Janet Jackson to name a few. It has an overall great vibe.

Johnson Family Vacation

Another comedy with Cedric the Entertainer, released in April 2004. The movie shares the joys of a family trip, family reunion and uncovering the dynamics of a family competition. This soundtrack has a host of artists like Musiq Soulchild, Ashanti, Case (one of my favorites) and Patty LaBelle.

Birth of a Nation

This drama/historical film outlines Nat Turner’s role in protecting his fellow man and woman. It was released in October 2016 and has a heart pounding soundtrack—a few of my favorites are: On My Own by Lecrae & Leon Bridges, War by Nas and Live Forever by Wale & Anthony Hamilton.

American Gangster

This drama/crime film follows the life of Harlem’s notorious Frank Lucas. It is my favorite in the list and stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Released in October 2007 the movie soundtrack dug in the crates for the likes of Bobby Womack, The Staple Singers and a fresh new voice with an old soul-- Anthony Hamilton.

Are you ready? Music plays such an integral part in movies and life, so head on over to show your gratitude and give these artists their flowers.

Hugs and Dance Moves.
